Seeing differently – promoting the mobility of blind children
Blind people hear the city
An association shows blind children how to get their bearings better with click sounds and a white cane
Clicking their tongues and recognizing trees, buildings, and cars from the echo – thanks to this sonar technique, blind people can get their bearings better in unknown terrain. The Anderes Sehen e. V. association is the first organization in Germany to promote early-childhood development using this sophisticated echo-tracking technique. So far, hundreds of children and adults have learned the method. Very early usage of a white cane is just as important for unrestricted mobility. Therefore, a white cane was developed specifically for small children.
