Expired, dented, not the right shape: in Germany alone millions of tons of food are wasted every year. SirPlus, Berlin’s first salvage store with an online shop, sells surplus food sorted out by retailers or manufacturers – because it is close to or past its expiry date, or doesn’t meet a standard. SirPlus brings these goods back into circulation. In this way, the start-up protects the environment and builds a bridge to sustainable nutrition: every consumer can easily become a food salvager. SirPlus also donates 20 percent of its food to non-profit organisations.
