Green electricity for an island
The first intelligent electricity network enables residents to use renewable energy where it is generated – locally
The special thing about the North Sea island of Pellworm is not its red and white lighthouse, but a hybrid power plant consisting of a wind energy installation and a photovoltaic field. Together with other generating units, it now produces more electricity than the around 1,100 island residents need. So that the surpluses can be used locally, Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG developed an intelligent electricity network making use of extensive storage technologies. In the future, the excess energy will be stored in high-performance batteries, heaters, and electric cars.
