The Start with a Friend association wants to go a step further: from welcoming culture to arrival culture. The initiative brings refugees and locals together into tandems, based on interests. The tandem relationships are as different as people are. In some of them, the locals help the refugees in everyday tasks, such as searching for a flat. Others want to meet nice people in Germany. Start with a Friend creates exciting encounters and enriching experiences. Friendships often arise - interaction is promoted in the immediate environment and with each other. So far, Start with a Friend has been launched in Berlin, Freiburg, Cologne, Dresden, and Oldenburg.
