TheaBib & Bar – a theatre as a place to study
Inspiring learning culture
The lobby of a theatre serves as a library where students can study for their exams during the day
In Germany, students often reserve tables at university libraries early in the morning. At the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, too, studying space is at a premium, especially during exams. An unusual idea is providing help and saving municipalities money: Since April 2013, students have studied in the lobby of the state theatre in Karlsruhe. The “TheaBib”, or theatre-cum-library, offers students 150 seats during the day, wireless Internet, and a coffee bar. In the evening, the stage is returned to the actors, and the students now know what is playing.
