Receiving emails, watching videos, or googling a restaurant on the go: smartphones are used for such purposes. But as a result, the amount of data clogging telecommunications networks is growing. Mobile phone providers warn that capacity limits are being reached. To cope with the rapidly growing volume of data, the project Tower Overlay over LTE-Advanced+ (TOoL+) is working on a new technology. It is expanding the current mobile phone standard such that data sent to smartphones can be transmitted efficiently via existing television and radio networks. Thus, TOoL+ relieves mobile phone networks.
