TOUCHDOWN 21 – participatory research on Down syndrome

Science without anxiety

People with and without Down syndrome investigate the cultural history of trisomy 21 together

There have been many scientific studies on trisomy 21, but in only very few do those affected get a chance to speak. The project TOUCHDOWN 21 enables people with Down syndrome to explore the cultural history of their handicap. On a website, they report on current findings and talk about their lives. In addition, they are working with scientists on an exhibition to be mounted at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn that will convey knowledge about people with trisomy 21. And as a pleasant side effect, from the joint research both sides learn how communication and cooperation can be most successful.
