Urban scenarios for the future: Project “Morgenstadt”
Blueprints for the city of tomorrow
Blueprints for the city of tomorrow
What will the city of the future look like? Fraunhofer researchers investigated this question in the Morgenstadt (City of the Future) initiative. Their conclusions: residents will generate their electricity themselves and feed surplus energy into the public grid. Building facades will clean the air and reduce traffic noise. Roof surfaces will be used for large gardens and for agricultural purposes to decrease transport distances and emissions from freight traffic, thus improving the quality of urban life. The researchers are looking for inspiration in metropolises around the globe, including Berlin, Singapore, Tokyo, New York, and Copenhagen.
