“Wheelchair hiking in Baden-Württemberg” Internet portal
Full speed ahead
An Internet platform helps wheelchair occupants explore rural areas
When the sun is shining, many Germans head to the country. In the Black Forest, in the Swabian Alps, and on Lake Constance, there are innumerable hiking paths for both short and long hikes. But an outing in nature can be a nightmare for people in wheelchairs or with reduced mobility. Rocky paths, steps, roots, and steep hills are insurmountable obstacles. To lend a helping hand, the website rollstuhlwandern-in-bw.de gives tips for barrier-free hiking which were tested in practice by members of the Association for People with Physical and Multiple Disabilities in Baden Württemberg. The aim is to promote unimpaired leisure activities in rural regions.
