Woodcube Hamburg
Living sustainably in a wooden cube
In Hamburg, an environmentally compatible multi-family home was built that is completely recyclable
The interdisciplinary team of architects and engineers had their sights set high. Their objective: to build the world’s most climate-neutral building. The Woodcube Hamburg, a five-storey multi-family house, consists almost exclusively of wood that is unglued, in its natural state, and from sustainable forestry. No chemicals or plastic were used, making the house free of pollutants and recyclable. At the same time, it is mould resistant. The carbon footprint is also impressive: the energy needed to build a conventional building of this kind corresponds to that needed for 70 Woodcubes.
