Alternative energies are the order of the day. With a new electric drive technology called ZAwheel, city buses will have the right of way when it comes to saving energy. The principle of the new technology made by Ziehl-Abegg is that, unlike with conventional electric busses, in which a central motor moves the wheels by means of a transmission, the drive is in the middle of the wheel. Thus transmissions – which devour electricity and make noise – will no longer be needed. Another advantage: like other alternative drive technologies, ZAwheel enables the people on the bus to reach their destination with no carbon-dioxide emissions or exhaust fumes.
