ZZZ – ZwischenZeitZentrale
Waking sleeping buildings
The ZwischenZeitZentrale transforms vacant buildings and unused land into temporary cultural spaces
ZZZ – with its name the ZwischenZeitZentrale, which literally means “in-between-times headquarters”, illustrates what it has been doing in Bremen since 2010: waking vacant buildings and abandoned areas from their slumber and filling them with cultural life provisionally. The projects – of which there had been 30 by 2013 – range from exhibitions in former stores to short-time hotel rooms for festival visitors in a former police station. The ZwischenZeitZentrale views itself as a mediator between participants. It tracks down buildings and users, advises building owners, brings people together into networks, and propounds ideas. In so doing, it livens up municipal districts.
