Jan Breitinger is a senior project manager in the Sustainable Social Market Economy programme at the Bertelsmann Stiftung. His current focus is on how to promote innovation policies that foster both technological competitiveness and social progress. Jan has published a wide range of policy-oriented studies and regularly participates in policy consultations on sustainability issues.
His work benefits from his many years as a strategy consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and his deep understanding of social change processes. Jan holds an M.A. in History and Political Economy from the University of Heidelberg and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Marburg. His dissertation analysed the economic exploitation and subsequent biological degradation of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, over the course of the 20th century.
