The floating future
The world’s population is constantly growing and, with it, so is the need for food. But space for cultivating food is limited, especially in metropolises and megacities. The Floating Future team, from the Netherlands and Germany, attempts to solve this problem with an innovative approach: “Floating Future” targets a new space for food cultivation—on top of water. The idea is to install scalable floating elements and plant hydroponics on unused lakes and water surfaces worldwide. Using an environmentally friendly logistics system, vegetables and fruit can be delivered fresh to the consumer's table. The construction, care and harvesting of these future floating cultivation-areas may also be serviced by people with disabilities. Floating Food Farms are thus not only sustainable, they are also social.
