Abel Hailegiorgis is the founder of Bamboo Labs, a social enterprise that promotes affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport mobility by utilising renewable resources to create a positive environmental impact. Bamboo Labs first started as an enterprise that produces wheelchairs framed entirely out of bamboo, and it has recently expanded its production to bamboo-made bikes.
Abel is a Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) alumni and has received several recognitions and awards for his innovative products.

My vision is to revolutionize the Bamboo industry in Ethiopia and to make it more environmentally conscious. I’m going start by launching my own brand, and develop products employing disadvantaged women and disabled people.
I still want to go big, but I know I have to start small. It’s like one of my YALI Regional Leadership center fellow participants said: we don’t get out of our mothers’ wombs and start running.

My company is still in its early stages, I intend to use the knowledge I gained from the fellowship to help define its future. I wanted to shape the futurity of my company with the experiance that i will get from the Agyle

The work I've done so far is limited in my coutry and around me participating in this program will help us expand my network and business leadership skills.I believe that I will gain a wealth of experience & skills from the AGYLE. This program offers the chance for me to be taught by world leading lecturers in a stimulating environment. This allows me to take time to improve my business skills, learning from industry experts and also from my fellow African-German young business leaders in the fellowship
